Kabwafu-Mzimba Agroforestry Community Project
The Kabwafu Community Agroforestry Project tackles land degradation through an integrated landscape approach that balances community livelihoods, restoration, and conservation. Located in Mzimba district under Traditional Authority Inkosi Mpherembe, Across 9,000 hectares, farmers cultivate nitrogen-fixing, fuelwood, and multipurpose tree species that enhance soil fertility, biodiversity, and farm productivity while sequestering carbon for verified benefits. Women gain financial independence through personal bank accounts and green jobs, while youth ensure permanence through monitoring. Improved crop yields strengthen household resilience. Designed to benefit farmers both within and beyond the Kabwafu Farmers Trust, the project is demonstrating that restoration can yield economic, social, and ecological benefits when communities lead the change.
Smart-Tree Platform
The Smart-Tree™ Platform enables precise farmer-level onboarding and land mapping, coupled with advanced ecological monitoring through satellite and field data. It ensures secure KYC verification and mobile wallet payments, delivers transparent impact reporting for funders and buyers, and integrates seamlessly with platforms like Restor real-time carbon tracking.
Zotheka project
The Zotheka Project is empowering over 600 women from Kavuzi, Sanga, Mdyaka, and Chintheche communities in Nkhatabay District to become leaders in sustainable conservation. Through beekeeping, agroforestry, and sustainable fishing, women organized in Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) are building financial independence while protecting forests and biodiversity.
Beekeeping helps reduce destructive tree-cutting and provides a reliable source of income, positioning women as key stewards of their land. With ongoing training, market access, and peer leadership, the project is demonstrating that conservation succeeds when women own the process—turning every beehive into a source of income, regeneration, and climate resilience for their communities.
