Our Services

From the ground up: turning local action into global impact

WHAT WE DO

SFS helps farmers move from degraded land and declining productivity towards more resilient, tree-based farming systems. We do this by combining practical field delivery with strong local relationships and credible monitoring.

We recruit and work through community structures, especially women’s groups and farmer co-operatives. We support farmers to adopt agroforestry, farmer-managed natural regeneration, and other restoration practices that fit their land and livelihood needs. We run nurseries, provide seedlings and technical advice, and support the ongoing care needed for trees to survive and deliver value.

We are also building Smart-Tree, our monitoring and traceability platform, to make restoration more visible, accountable, and eventually easier to connect to fairer payment systems. However, technology is not the starting point but farmers are. Smart-Tree exists to strengthen trust, reduce monitoring costs, and help ensure that verified restoration can lead to real benefits for the people doing the work.

Harvesting hope in Kabwafu : women empowered through mashroom farming

In Kabwafu, women are transforming their lives through mushroom farming, thanks to training from Sustainable Farming Solutions (SFS). What started as a simple workshop has become a source of nutrition, income, and confidence. Mushrooms once unfamiliar are now proudly grown and sold in local markets, helping women pay school fees, improve diets, and save for the future. Beyond income, the project fosters solidarity and resilience as women work together, share knowledge, and support one another. Each bucket of mushrooms tells a story of empowerment, sustainability, and hope proof that SFS is helping Kabwafu build a brighter, more resilient future.

HOW WE WORK

We work with farming families by making adoption easy through simple guidance, timely inputs, peer support, and quick problem-solving during the dry season. To reduce barriers, we keep cash contributions low most costs are covered by SFS, with farmers mainly investing their time in care and basic record keeping. We also focus on rewarding meaningful outcomes such as tree survival and good management, rather than just planting days.

Community-Led Restoration

Through training and participation, community members lead tree-planting efforts to restore soil, boost biodiversity, and fight climate change while ensuring every tree thrives.

Women in VSLA

Women in our VSLAs are trained in financial literacy to manage savings, loans, and small businesses, helping their families, strengthening the community, and leading local change.

Mushroom farming

Mushrooms are grown and sold locally, helping women earn income, pay school fees, and improve family nutrition while building unity through shared skills and support.
